Just wanted to share my opinion about online dating service. For a long time I was running free dating service and put so much effort with a little or no return . Aren't we all working hard on our site so one day making good living from it? If your answer is yes then stop providing free service for FREE which will never get you anywhere since the dating business is saturated to make money of adsense. From adsense you might be making max of $100 a day if you are lucky and have a decent amount of traffic. You never can become like POF since Markus started in a right time and good market.  If you think you are going to be another POF think again. However if you provide a good service you can charge users and they will pay for it. Since I changed to paid servie I made more money than the tome I was giving free service a way and dealing with spammers. I am making a decent cash and want to thank VLD and hope they put more into their work to keep the product as good as big competition.

So yesterday I bought Arrowchat, nothing special just the $50 basic package but I was super excited to try it out. I got it all installed without issue and everything looked good until I start trying to actually use it. This is where the fun starts. I would try to chat with someone else online and the chatbox started bouncing on every new page I visit. (it's supposed to stay docked in the bottom right of your site by default) like the one included in VLD. Arrowchat appears on the left, then again on the right, then on the left. I realize this is probably a CSS issue, so no big deal I thought. I can fix it.

Then I see a mismatch of people who are online ArrowChat says 8 VLD says 3. I figured it must be a setting somewhere, I never did figure it out so I left it and moved on. I tried adjusting the refresh times and I never got it to work at all. There was always a big mismatch.

Then I see there are no display images beside the people in the chat box, just blank white boxes to represent both people with pictures and with out? My eyebrow raises a little... Ok I guess I can look into that as well.

A couple minutes later I notice if you click on peoples usernames from the chatbox it's supposed to bring you to their profile. LOL no the profile URL changes based on the page I'm viewing, so if I'm viewing pictures, the user profile becomes mysite.com/pictures/member or if I'm viewing the blogs page the members URL becomes mysite.com/blogs/member.

So this is like 4 issues in a few minutes and I haven't even really begun to actually test the software and features.

None of this though had convinced me to give up on ArrowChat, I was willing to work through it. What killed it for me was their support. I can get over a less than stellar product if you work with me. But if your product sucks AND your support sucks. Well then cya. I can't say the support was all bad. They did resolve the one profile URL issue but they're slow (6 hours+ for each reply) and the website/documentation is not helpful. Going the support route probably would have meant my chat system was down for days while waiting for replies to tickets

Remember this is all within 10 minutes of buying and installing the software. So I head over to their website looking for some answers. The forum layout is terrible but thats besides the point.  The threads are all basically empty and really no help at all. So I create a ticket. On the website it boasts about how questions are usually answered within an hour or two (LOL yea right) I saw a few complaints on the forums of it taking 24+ hours to have anything answered. - Had I seen all of this before I would have known to stay away but you can't access the forums until you purchase. The website also says 15 day money back guarantee but when I asked for a refund there $15 fee hidden in the fine print That's what pissed me off the most.

So my hope here is that maybe one VLD member see this and decides not to buy ArrowChat, that will make me losing the $15 a little less painful. For the record I'm using VLD 2.7, I have a few mods but nothing drastic that would have caused ArrowChat to fail so hard. Cometchat worked right out of the box.

and Vlad/mods please don't delete this everything i've said is 100% the truth. I wrote this more as a warning to other VLD customers as opposed to a shot against ArrowChat (even though it does suck) to top it off, they're making me wait 7-10 business days to "process" my refund please save your time and money. GO ANYWHERE ELSE

If you're looking for a chat bar Google around and look for other options, don't waste your time or money with arrowchat.

The tl;dr version is I bought Arrowchat, it was broken out of the box. I'm out $50 for 7-10 business days while they "process" my refund and they keep $15 for what? because they said so.

I have another dumb question, which is:

How can you integrate an external template from monstertemplate or over here: http://www.vldpersonals.com/services/design/ with VLD software ?

If you look at the templates, they have a different look and different features, but how can I integrate that with VLD?
So all the vld features will be visable and active ?

Can someone please tell me how I can do this ??

does it make sense to hide the regular members (free members) from guests? My thought was that only paid members can be accessed by guests - members can view them all.

Reasons:
1. Animation for members to upgrade
2. Animation for guests to become members

Questions:
1. How is that with search-engines? I think i.e. googlebot is a guest... Will the "hidden" profiles be indexed?
1b. Can I tell googlebot to index them by a robots.txt file? (A profile can be found on the saearch-engine, but with a click on the next one the guest will be asked to login).
2. Where can I change the text "You cannot access this page." to something like "You have to login to view this page".

Please, share your thoughts about this...

VLD Personals is really slow on PowWeb.
They do have a good customer service, but ...

Update: PowWeb told me they will issue refund -- and I respect it. Thank you PowWeb. I will pay $15 fee for my domain and they will issue refund for the rest. I'll take Vlad's hosting so I can design template for my website etc, and then when website is "ready", I will switch it to dedicated.

New Update (Dec 14, 2011) I totally forgot username/pass for my domain with PowWeb and I also do not have access to my old email. PowWeb helped me recover my login info over their chat. They authenticated me as a user and sent me my login info to my new email address. Excellent customer serivce. Thank you PowWeb.

When I say develop an app (that is what facbook calls it), in reality you don't really need to develop an app if you don't want to. You can display your site on Facebook using Facebook Iframe without developing an app.

Here is an example of a  Facebook xml App on a Facebook page using Iframe:

So if someone was importing 600 contacts , Openinviter was trying to send emails to all those people automatically!
and then Emails won't go through , they will be refused by mail servers like Hotmail , yahoo , gmail etc..

and Your server will most likely be balcklisted, also  you can not offer unsubscribe option to those who receive emails so most likely they will mark the email as spam and you end up getting nothing and never become a big site.

So after learning PHP and getting really far with it I have customized OpenInviter to look like this :

When a user logs in the site will redirect him to that page

Once he imports contacts those contacts will be stored in temporarry database
that has 2 tables , 1 for emails and one for unsubscribed users

and I have a script and a cronjob set to hit the script every 5 minutes
so every 5 minutes my script pull few emails from database and send them the invivation!

also I included an unsubscribe link that contains the reciptient email so once he click it his email will be stored in the unsubscribed users table and so My email script will check again if the email exsist in my unsubscribed user database bfore sending the email !
