Topic: Highly requested by site users: Your message to XXX has been read.

Hello.

Lot of my users are requesting to add a notification for sent messages when each message is read by recipient.
I had this feature in my site before I migrated to vldPersonals (I used another script) and now I am understanding how much it was appreciated by users.

So, please consider to add this little but interesting feature on vldp, not just because I had it in my old site, but because it seems it is useful and users like it very much.

A feedback about this post will be appreciated.

Please, consider also that this feature will make the users be happy and visit the site more frequently every time the system notify them that their messages have been read.

This feature will makes the users think the site is more alive...

I ask to all webmasters to post their feedback.

You may edit account_messages_sent.tpl template file and add this code

<!-- IF message_new -->
  Unread
<!-- ELSE -->
  Read
<!-- ENDIF -->

+ 1, it would be nice to have this feature built-in.

I asked for a different thing, not just for marking read/unread messages.
When recipient clicks to read the message, a notification is automatically sent to the sender email address, as it is for new comments in blogs, events, pictures, gifts, etc...

I repeat am asking for this just because I noticed it's very very very appreciated from users and keeps the site more visited by users.

Re: Highly requested by site users: Your message to XXX has been read.

It already sends an email when a member gets a message. It has been doing that, I think, from version 1.

yes, db3204, it sends e-mail to you when you get new message, but it does not send e-mail to the sender with information "user abc has read your message" or something like that...

I see.......hopefully if they add this feature they give you the option to turn it on or off or other options.

For myself, I think it is a good idea, but man, my email server may be overburden and not be able to handle all the emails. Here are my thoughts:

1. Have the option to turn it on or turn it off completely.

2. Limit how many emails are sent -- i.e. 5 emails a day

3. I would like this to be part of the permissions....turn it on for certain groups and off for others.

I think that this option is really useless, you can add "message read or not" mod by Ramil to your site, and then simply go to the "SENT MESSAGES" and see what writes beside message topic (message read or message non-read).

In the past I thought the way you are doing now.
I believed it was an useless option.

Then this feature was added into the script I used and I noticed that user visits grown.
Infact, consider that a big amount of users login the site lot of times after they subscribe, but day by day they get annoyed if they don't find new messages or answers to the messages they sent to other users, so they stop visiting the site frequently.
Well, when users receive a notification saying that someone has just read a message they sent in the past, then those users start visiting the site frequently again...

I think that every feature that helps to make the site more alive is a great feature, even if I personally think it's a useless feature...
Don't you think so?
