Topic: Spin off from purge feature.

Ok here's the idea / request.  What if we don't want to delete (purge) inactive members but instead just hide them from the public. I have found that some users go MIA for over 12 months then suddenly start participating again. It would be cool to run a cron or some browser based script that checks for Inactive members based on the criteria you specify then hide these inactive members from public viewing. Ok now here's the cool part.... when next the "Inactive" member decides to login their profile would automatically change to active (profile online) once more and their profile would start showing up in the public areas again.

What do you think about this?

I've seen that feature used on one big site. Inactive profile are not shown, but if searched for you get a message "this member has not signed in for XXX months and the profile is currently offline"...

Thanks for the feedback Dragon.. would anybody else like to see this feature added to vld?  I think it would be cool to not have to delete inactive members but simply hide them from public view. smile

Re: Spin off from purge feature.

Hmmm, maybe a "Last Online" field in the profile page / search results so people can see roughly when the user last logged on? eg: Today / This Week / This Month etc.

Re: Spin off from purge feature.

The idea here is to hide "inactive" members..... who tend to be unresponsive. But might one day decide to start participating again.

Re: Spin off from purge feature.

I have just yesteday went back to a datingsite in my own country, and got the message; "Your account haven't been used for tree month, so you will have to use this activationlink to make your account active again. If you don't activate your account in ½ a year, your account will be deleted". Even though I haven't used this profile/account for more than three month, I have recieved mails with "Matching people for you" and newsletters, so if I had been interested to see those match, I would have activated my account - or if I found that those emails was irritating to get because I had no interest for finding a match, I would have deleted my account (but I didn't, because I was no regular member, but a datingsite-spy big_smile )
I find this request very useful.:)

- From the beginning I was intelligent, but since I learn something every day, I'm sure I'll end up wise as well -

Or even better than a cron... a preset criteria from within the cp. Saying if X user has not logged in for X months hide profile.
