Topic: Upgrade video tutor - 2.5.1 to 2.5.3
Sorry for the quality. It has been over a year since I played around with youtube. I saved the video in mp4 format so maybe I need to try another format at a later date to see if I can improve the quality.
For now, I will post since I don't want my two hours of effort to go waste.
Note that I did not demo how to make a backup copy of your current version of vldPersonals before upgrading. Please be sure to backup your current copy and database before upgrading.
NOTE 1:
When you are upgrading you have to replace the old vldPersonal files (in our demo they are 2.5.1 files) with the latest version files (in this demo we are upgrading to 2.5.3)
The includes folder contains your config.php file. YOU DO NOT want to overwrite the old config.php file on your server. If you do, you will be replacing it with a config.php file that does not contain your configuration settings for your site. In the demo, I upload the includes folder but the config.php file is protected from being over written. If you do not know how to use permissions....make sure you make a backup of the curent version of your config.php file. In this demo we are upgarding 2.5.1 to 2.5.3 so I would want to make a copy of the 2.5.1 config.php file. Later in the video, I upload the copy of the 2.5.1 config.php file to replace the config.php file in the 2.5.3 includes folder.
NOTE 2:
As stated in the video, the 2.5.3 files are in the left panel and the 2.5.1 files in the right panel. For 2.5.1 all templates for 2.5.1 are on my server. I will have to replace the 2.5.1 template files with 2.5.3 files if I want to use the same type of template. This is where many vldPersonals members get confused. They try to keep the old templates since they made custom changes. Sorry, you have to replace the old template files with the latest template files and make any custom changes you want to the new templates.
For this demo, I only replace the default 2.5.1 webby2 files with the 2.5.3 webby2 files.
NOTE 3
All of the 2.5.3 files and folders have been uploaded including the update.php file. As I discussed in NOTE 1 above, the last thing I'm going to upload is a copy of the 2.5.1 config.php file to the 2.5.3 includes folder on my server
