Topic: AddThis to your site
The stats for my site show that FireFox is the leading browser for both Macintosh and Windoze visitors.
AddThis is a free FireFox plugin that can be a very useful addition to your web business. According to their website, AddThis combines all your favorite web 2.0 social networking, bookmarking, blogging, and e-mail services in one link.
With this plugin, it is easy for visitors and members to share links to pages on your site with virtually every other social networking site. The list includes 50+ sites, including Facebook, MySpace, AIM, and others.
Here is how I added this to my web business. Go to this website:
http://www.addthis.com/?utm_source=hm&utm_medium=img&utm_content=ATLogo_orig&utm_campaign=AT_main
Choose "Website" and click on "Get Your Button." Copy the link on the next page and paste it into where it works best for your site.
I am using the PinkyDates template from http://www.luvpoint.com/. Your location may vary.
In Admin, I clicked on "Content>Manage banners>Add group, I named the new group "AddThis", then Add banner, and named it "AddThis." Of course, you may name these whatever works for you, but remember to be consistent. I pasted the AddThis code in the "Banner [Preview] text area and clicked Submit.
Next, I opened my templates>my_template>header.tpl in my text editor. I then commented the sections for links so it was easier to see what I was doing. Then after "Events" I entered this link: "<div class="addthis">{banners:group="addthis"}</div>."
Next, I opened my site.css page (templates>my_template>media>site.css) and added:
div#headerright {
font: 11px/38px arial, verdana, sans-serif;
color: #999999;
margin: 10px 10px 10px 10px;
text-align: right;
float: right;
}
This code contains the padding needed to keep the AddThis aligned in a manner consistent with the links. Then I uploaded the header.tpl and site.css pages to their respective locations.
Hope this works for you.
