A feature that lets you know what age range a person is looking for? It seems so simple. Why should a member waste their time writing to someone who doesn't think they're age appropriate.

but u can do this over custom field and drop down box, cant u? just put ages in it and thats it
But you need two parameters. That means two drop-boxes. For example, a member prefers people of the age "21 to 28".
How do you set up your custom field to save this data?

Do we already have this "desired age range" field? Or we don't?

On second thought, I guess I *could* just add 2 fields, say age1 and age2, and then hack the template file so that it will display age2 in the same line as age1, and hide the label. But that's a bit messy.
What I did may not suit everyone. I used one drop down field with a selection of different age ranges, e.g. 18-25, 20-30 etc. It took a little bit of time but it seems to work well and I've had no member complaints about age range selection as I've just about got it all covered.
OK, I see how you set it up. Thanks for clarifying. Another solution is just a simple textbox and ask them to type their age range. But I think we should be able to create a special custom field with 2 input parameters, so members can specify their preference for things such as age range, height range, or even income range. Makes sense to me.

Maybe you didn't know that income range is one of the default profile questions of VLDP?

Lighten up. I've had vldpersonals since 2006 and know what's in it. It was a little joke. I added all those fields easily, but for "Income range" I have wording like "I have a reasonable income". In retrospect I should have removed it completely as its an invitation to gold diggers.
Why ask to add it?
You can already do it by yourself.
Just add two dropdown lists into profile. One for min preferred age (XX) and another one for max preferred age (YY). By admin panel put into those dropdown lists the values to select from 18 to 90 (yes, it's annoying, but is possible to do one by one).
Then in user profile you can put these informations this way:
Preferred age range: from XX to YY.
