It'll be different for many people. Some earn nothing, others earn $10/month, whiles some of our clients earn 4/5 digits every month.

It all depends. Look at eHarmony.com --- they make millions via subscription fees. Zoosk.com, Match.com, Flirt.com, etc...
Some people like everything for free, but I like to pay for services. I think it's fair. However, this is my hobby and I want everybody to have free access to the site -- even though I will pay to customize my site further. So, it's my expense, but it's also my hobby. Hobbies cost money. It's all fair.
But, what if my site becomes too big? How will I pay for hosting? If that happens, I will have to implement some kind of advertising. So, it all depends. Do you do this for fun/hobby or for money? Ask yourself that question and you will know answer.
As for VLD Personals, I strongly recommend this software. You can keep looking, but you won't find better software or better service.
