Topic: Spam

It would be nice to see better system for spam, here is suggestion:

If member send identical message to large amount of users, system should recognise and block that user for x,y period.

I think facebook has similar system.

Re: Spam

+1, great feature... I would like also to add - Administrator can use which action to perform - delete spammer, deactivate, ban IP, disable sending messages, disallow to register another account from the same IP and so on...

Wish to see this smile

Mcp, Mcsa, Mcse, A+, Server+, Linux CP...

Re: Spam

Most of users send the same first message to the members. You will think you have more spammers then you really have. But it is a possible option to limit spammers, it is true.

Limit sa sent messages by hour to 25. Create groups. Regular members can not send messages till they are not moved by admin to Free Group, who can send messages.

Re: Spam

Lot of members use to create a template message and send it to meet/invite other people, so blocking their accounts is not a good idea at all.

Maybe it's better that system will send to webmaster an alert (and the content of the message) when a member send an identical message to several members. This way the admin can check the message and understand that member intentions.

Another useful system could be email addresses removing from message content. I know it's not enough and some scamers use to disguise email addresses (eg: mymail at hotmail dot com), anyway lot of them don't do it. This system helped me a lot when I used osDate (email addresses were changed into "=== email address removed ==="). I repeat, it's not enough, but it sometimes helps to protect members form scamers. Moreover, it's a way to make a little bit difficult to exchange MSN addresses between members... wink (not all people know how to hide/disguise an email address into a message).

Re: Spam

Some other programs use the StopForumSpam website during registration to compare IP address, username and email address to the database maintained by that site.  While it also is not perfect I have a forum site where 10-20  users each day matching the criteria being compared is met and the registration is blocked.  I have manually looked up many of the IP's, email addresses and usernames and found they have been logged on StopForumSpam site multiple times and somethings hundreds.  Wouldn't this be a useful tool during the VLD registration process?

Re: Spam

The best would be:
When a person chooses a country, the system checks the IP, if
were different, the member would be tagged as spam, until an administrator
consider the subscription

Re: Spam

I'd like that, as I do that manually now smile But the IP checking service needs to be something accurate.
